Am I Niche Blogging?
When I bought the domain name and set up BlogRecon, I was doing so with the idea in mind that I was going to be niche blogging. My goal was to document my progress as I learned what it means and what it takes to create a great blog. The more I learn, the more vague my mission statement seems. To me, the idea of learning what it takes to create a great blog was a niche concept. I had never investigated blogging (let alone blogged at all) so to me, this was all uncharted territory and an incredibly refreshing glance into a mysteriously world – a bizarre modern marriage of objectivity and subjectivity.
So, What Exactly Is Niche Blogging?
According to Wikipedia, Niche Blogging is “the act of creating a blog with the intent of using it to market to a particular niche market. While it could be argued that every blog is, in some form, a niche blog, the term as it applies to marketing refers to a particular kind of blog.” That definition simultaneously fills me with hope and makes me feel like I don’t actually understand what I’m trying to do. Perhaps I am in fact creating a niche blog with BlogRecon – it’s just an insanely bigger niche than I had imagined.
Using My Time Wisely and Enjoying The Process
I really liked this post I found yesterday via bloggingspree.com called “10 Amazing Examples of Niche Blogs“. Good brief explanation about niche blogs and then, obviously, 10 examples. I had independently already viewed a couple of those blogs and really appreciated them. That BloggingSpree post was a reminder to me to forget about the “greater meaning” of my blog for a moment. Am I blogging about a topic I’m passionate about? The quick answer is yes. I enjoy blogging, seo, nerdy computer, gadget and web stuff. I’m enjoying the process. That’s all that matters at the moment. Deliver great content above all else. (Clearly “great” is subjective as well, but stay with me…)
Naiveté – Where Do I Go From Here?
“I’m too busy acting like I’m not naive. I’ve seen it all, I was here first.” - Kurt Cobain
I am doing my best on this blog to NOT act like I’ve seen it all – not even a sliver, most likely, of what’s out there in the world of niche blogging. BUT, it’s OK that I’m naive at this point in time because to really learn something, you have to first admit that you know very little. In terms of what I set out to do with BlogRecon, I admitted from the start that I didn’t know what I was doing and wanted to document my progress along the way. To answer my own question in that case, perhaps what constitues niche blogging is subjective and doesn’t really matter to me at this point. I want blogging, seo, internet marketing, etc. to become very familiar territory to me in the coming months and years. Whether or not I’m working on niche blog, the only thing that matters is that I stick to my goals; stay consistent, never stop learning, never stop sharing.
